Welcome to Blakeney Sailing Club

No matter the weather you will always find a warm welcome at the dinghy park at Blakeney. Do come along and say hello.

We sail in an area of outstanding natural beauty. The harbour is tidal but protected by a spit of land, which leads to Blakeney Point. It is an ideal location for sailing or the added challenge of racing. We also welcome kayaks/canoes and paddle boards.

Are you a seasoned sailor or you are just tempted to have a go? Have you got a boat or would you like help deciding which would most suit your needs? The club has members who have sailed at Blakeney for forty years and some who have only just started.

There is a comprehensive programme of events for members from March to October. In addition, during July/August we have we have mid-week holiday sailing, Fun Week and the annual regatta with a traditional bank start, which are open to non-members.

We do not have a Club House, but there is a dinghy park in which dinghies and kayaks/canoes can be stored and the club hut which is the meeting point for all events. We have two Patrol Boats for safety cover and a Committee Boat anchored in the race area.

The Club is run a committee which are all volunteers, and all members are expected to help out with Race Officer/Patrol Boat duties.

We also hold a number of social events throughout the year including BBQs, Prizegivings, winter pub series etc.

Alan Collett writes:Saturday 27th April 2024Predicted wind 13-16mph Easterly, 7CSeven dinghies, nine competitors set forth. It was cold exacerbated by the wind, but did we complain….Simon and Marcus, the race officers set interesting courses which resulted in interesting results. Where Alan and Angela, in Merlin, came fourth in race one, they were clear winners in race two, and where David in Topsy came fifth in race one, he came second in race two. Sam joined the second race 33 seconds after the start otherwise she could have come second. With the wind from the East, the course in race one had many jibes and downwind legs, with a long beat from buoy 9 through the line to buoy 6 enabling boats to change their positions, In the second race more reaches were introduced, making for exciting racing.The water was quite choppy with wind over tide in the first race resulting in two capsizes. In the first race David capsized at the windward buoy, right in the camera’s field of view (as the pictures show). With the tide only just starting to ebb Steve capsized in the second race at the same mark. Another interesting event on the water as Merlin crossed the finish line, she lassoed the inner marker with her spinnaker sheet and dragging it some distance!Alan and Dave in the patrol boat kept a watchful eye on all concerned. Sunday 14th April 2024Spring Series continued.What a glorious sunny morning with a good wind 13-18mph from the west. To parody Shakespeare’s Henry V speech, and members of Blakeney Sailing Club now a-bed, Shall think themselves accursed they were not here….As Simon and Alan often say, what could possibly go wrong, well apart from missing the first race, and flying the spinnaker horizontal in the second, nothing, and oh Matt forgetting his sunscreen cream! All the buoys were passed to port, the tide stayed in long enough for two good races. Ben Lulham had two good wins in his Laser Standard number 13.Well Séan did capsize at buoy 7 but we will not mention that.Thanks again to Race Officers John and Rod and to Patrol Boat helm and crew Matt and Steve.
